Auslan camps are a fun-filled way for participants to practise and develop Auslan skills outside of a classroom environment.
Deaf Services Queensland holds two Auslan Only Weekend (AOW) Camps a year. In June, there is a Family AOW for families who have a Deaf or hard of hearing child who uses Auslan and in November a Community AOW for students and community members who have engaged in any Auslan training throughout the year.
The camps are an immersion style weekend-long residential experience starting on a Friday evening and concluding at lunch time on the Sunday. Participants use the language throughout the weekend to participate in activities, communicate at meal times and to interact socially with other campers, AOW staff and volunteers.
