When Helen Keller, a noted blind and deaf American authoress and philosopher came to Australia in 1948, she increased public interest in the needs of Deaf and hard of hearing people.
Her remarkable enthusiasm created new hope for a better world for deaf children, youth, adults, and their families. When she visited Brisbane, Helen Keller said, “If I could live again I should do so much more than I have for the deaf.”
It is through sharing Helen Keller’s enthusiasm for supporting the deaf community that Deaf Services Queensland still exists today. However, we do need your help.
The services and programs offered by Deaf Services Queensland rely heavily on the generosity of the community. It is through community support that Deaf Services Queensland is able to provide assistance to the deaf community around Queensland.
