Conditions of enrolment

We do not hold positions in a course without payment. Refunds are only given if we cancel a course. We cannot be responsible for changes to your personal circumstances.
Once a course is confirmed, there are no refunds for payments.
Students may nominate a substitute student to be enrolled in their place.
Students must be aged 16 years or older.
A concession rate is available to pensioners and full-time students. Proof of concession must be shown at time of enrolment.
Deaf Services Queensland reserves the right to cancel, shorten or vary courses.
Your privacy is important to us. We collect information at enrolment necessary for registration. The personal information provided by you is voluntary. If you do not provide the information requested, your enrolment may be affected. No information provided by you will be disclosed except where the law permits, or if you consent.

Australian Sign Language Alphabet
Fingerspelling is an important part of Auslan (Australian Sign Language)

It doesn’t take long to learn and you can begin fingerspelling as soon as you understand the hand shapes of the alphabet.

Right-handed people fingerspell with the right hand and left-handed people fingerspell with the left hand. People who communicate in Auslan use fingerspelling in about 10% or their language.

Hints for fingerspelling:

The hand is raised in a comfortable position by bending the elbow.
The arm does not move when fingerspelling.
Shapes for the letters should be clearly formed.
Pause slightly between words.
