Stephanie has an interest in languages and culture, which emerged from having a Deaf family, hearing (signing) grandparents as well as a German background.  She has pursued this interest through extensive travel and study and working in the fields of research, education, disability, mental health, interpreting/translation and community development as well as lived in three different countries.

The three workshops will be a blend of theory and practical activities relating to Written English/Non-Conventional Sign Language (NCSL) and Auslan/Non-Conventional Sign Language (NCSL) interpreting and also Auslan-Auslan work for platform work.

Participants will explore the linguistic components of NCSL and discuss the individual variations that users bring to the interpreting process that have an impact on the work of the Deaf Interpreter.  Participants will then have the opportunity to interpret in different scenarios and will use this as the basis for discussions around the process of interpreting and reflect on their performance.
